On Monday 14th September 2026, Brasenose College, Oxford, welcomed the winners of the 2026 MASSOLIT Video Essay Competition for a special day of celebration and academic discovery.
Hosted by Dr Joe Organ, the ceremony brought together this year's competition winner (Velvette Pascale Deller), runners-up, their teachers and members of the MASSOLIT and Brasenose teams to celebrate the students' achievements and their passion for learning.
The awards ceremony provided an opportunity to recognise the hard work and creativity behind this year's entries. This year, we received a record number of entries to the competition – 30% more than in 2025 – and the quality of submissions was exceptionally strong.
The standard was so high that judges from Brasenose College found it difficult to choose a single overall winner, and expanded the runners-up list to include eleven students rather than the usual nine.
Now in its sixth year, the MASSOLIT Video Essay Competition continues to give students the opportunity to explore a subject they are passionate about, develop their confidence and communicate their ideas in their own words.
For teachers, the competition provides another way to encourage students to pursue their intellectual interests beyond the classroom – while giving them the opportunity to experience something of university academic life.
We're already looking forward to the next competition, which will return in 2027. More information about next year's competition will be announced via the MASSOLIT website, newsletter and on social media.
